Interim Finance Business Partner in Healthcare
In 2022, NHS England (NHSE) required an Interim Finance Business Partner to support the programme of work undertaken in the delivery of the National Covid-19 response. NHSE required someone who could focus on the financial elements of the programme delivery and ensure accurate management and control of spend of approximately £300 million per month. Importantly, as the challenges of Covid-19 continued and became part of normal operations, NHSE required a more sustainable way to manage the financial elements of the programme that would deliver cost-savings and provide the additional senior support needed at Business Partner and Financial Lead level.
We approached the search by gaining a full brief of the requirements prior to going to market. This involved spending time discussing the essential requirements for the new Finance Business Partner and the culture of the department. Key elements of the brief included:
- Being able to work as part of a national team to deliver additional capability.
- Bridging the gap in financial governance and management skills to provide additional capacity to the existing team.
- Ensuring the programme delivered value for money through better financial control over cost per dose as delivered to patients and increasing consistency and understanding within the procurement process.
- Driving the programme effectively within a challenging environment as the programme continually changed to meet the needs of patients.
It was essential NHSE engaged with a recruitment partner that had experience and understanding of working within its sector and had the requisite knowledge and candidate networks to source an experienced candidate that would be successful and stay in the role.
Our dedicated Healthcare team immediately utilised our vast network of NHS experienced candidates. We successfully conveyed the varied nature of the role to candidates, managing their expectations for role requirements and remuneration.
As a result, we successfully placed the Interim Finance Business Partner within NHSE’s timeframe.
Benefits to NHSE:
- Due to the speed of our response, NHSE could quickly benefit from filling the gaps in capacity and skillset with the team enabling it to implement better financial controls over the programme’s expenditure.
- Our candidate brought their experience and understanding of NHS processes, procedures, contracts and commercial arrangements to the team enabling NHSE to remain compliant with legislative requirements.
